Appliance Electricity Cost Calculator
Estimate an appliance’s monthly and yearly electricity cost using annual kWh from its label, or measured average watts and runtime, with your own electricity rate.
Two ways to estimate appliance electricity cost
These examples use illustrative inputs, not a recommended electricity rate or typical appliance usage. Use your own energy use and electricity price.
From annual kWh
For a label showing 600 kWh per year and a price of 20¢/kWh, the estimated cost is $120 per year, or $10 per month on average.
600 kWh/year × 20¢/kWh ÷ 100 = $120/year
This changes the price assumption while keeping the label’s yearly energy use. Learn how to reprice an EnergyGuide label.
From average watts and runtime
For measured average power of 100 W used 4 hours a day at 20¢/kWh, enter 100 watts, 4 hours per use, and 1 use per day. The estimate is $0.08 per day, $29.20 per year, or about $2.43 per month on average.
100 W × 4 hours/day ÷ 1,000 = 0.4 kWh/day0.4 kWh/day × $0.20/kWh = $0.08/day
The yearly estimate assumes this pattern repeats for 365 days. Maximum nameplate watts may differ from average power. Understand which watts to use.
These are appliance energy-cost estimates. Monthly values are yearly estimates divided by 12, not predictions for a particular bill. Review the formulas and assumptions.
